In college, I have seen and also participated in sports betting. It was great to see big payouts and money coming in, but it didn't happen as much as we were losing. After multiple people kept losing, I realized their attitudes would change, and they'd keep placing more bets to try to win it all back. It rarely happens. I've seen more harm than just their lost money.

Boys who frequently gamble while in college miss more classes, perform worse in school, consume more alcohol, and participate in other risky behaviors at higher rates.                                        Financial harms are at 25% in gamblers.                                                 96% share of gamblers have lost money from online betting.

Relationships

Family and relationship harms have nearly doubled to 27.2% caused by sports betting and addiction.

The Apps Themselves

Sportsbooks have had lawsuits for online allegations that the company's app design and marketing strategies encouraged impulsive betting and caused significant financial and emtional harm to users.
